Gingerbread Mimic

There was once a hag that wanted the most impressive house of all. So, she fed and groomed a mimic to form a cheerful-looking abode to entrance children for the hag to eat. In the end, there once was a mimic that ate a hag. It preferred having owners with a fine festive spirit... but still wasn't above eating naughty children. It offers a fine meal in recompense. Plum Pudding Mimic

One might think a dessert mimic amusing, perhaps even silly. That is until they encounter this horror. Constantly ravenous for fresh humanoid fat and treasure, the monstrosity disguises itself as a tasty treat of mammoth proportions. Often its hunting grounds are in city slums or destitute villages where hungry overcomes common sense. It may not get rich quick in such places, but it certainly gets fed. Little Ma'ack Orner found it in the corner, A great big festive pie; He put in his thumb, And was pulled into the chum, And screamed, "What a dead boy am I!" Greatcoat Mimic

A relative of the Scarf Mimic, the Greatcoat Mimic seeks out creatures in need of its protection. No one is sure why this is, though the prevailing theory is that the first coat mimic was cursed by a winter fey or festive saint it attacked. Now it must protect others from the harsh climate and other foes. If so, it seems this curse passed on to its spawn. It uses its pseudopods not only to attack enemies but also to keep its ward upright and moving as needed. Scarf Mimic

While not as malicious as most of its cousins, the scarf mimic is no less vicious when viciousness is called for. This particular breed seeks out those shivering in cold soon after they are gestated. They imprint on these creatures much like a puppy. From there on out, it takes a shape of a warm scarf several feet in length. It also becomes the creature's protector much like a vigilant hound, to continue the analogy. Iced Mimic

An odd and psychotic breed of monstrosity, the ice mimic enters a hibernation state for the warmest season of the year. As soon as the weather turns and snow falls, it awakens and begins its terrifying hunt. Taking the form of snow sculptures, the mimic stalks prey switching from normal to horrid form in the blink of an eye. Its bulk rapidly glows as it gluts on frightened creatures, building up fat before falling into slumber once more. Braided Mimic

It's hard to tell if this mimic is one creature or a collection of monstrosities based on its behavior. Its preferred disguise is one of a garland ranging from festive oak vines, to daisy chains, to beaded ropes. In each instance, this is a weave of separate strands coming together as a whole. Why? Because the mimic can unspool into a swarm - separate but whole. In either form, it squirms, slithers, and squeezes the life from its prey. Braided Mimic Medium monstrosity (shapechanger), neutral Armor Class 13 (natural armor) Hit Points 65 (10d8 + 20) Speed 15 ft Climb 15 ft Str 18 Dex 13 Con 15 Int 5 Wis 13 Cha 8 Skills Stealth +5 Damage Immunities acid Condition Immunities prone Senses darkvision 60 ft, passive Perception 11 Languages - Challenge 3 (700 XP) Shapechanger. Stocking Mimic

Another stunted breed of mimic, this particular strain nevertheless has a large appetite. To deal with this, its ancestors played with various forms before settling on a stocking. Not only does prey sometimes slip it on their legs, they also hang it on their chimneys during part of the year. This makes it easier to take their place. Along with a distended stomach to swallow larger prey, these monstrosities also developed the arcane ability to shrink meals. Think of them as fuzzy, warm, snakes. Soldier Mimic

Once there was a little girl terrified of rats that scurried around the castle in which she lived. Thankfully, her father possessed a keen and aberrant mind. He found a clutch of mimics and trained them to take the guise of toy soldiers the size of halflings. He also instilled in them a taste for rats and other vermin. Over time, the girl's directions gave the mimics more glitter, bright clothes, and bigger jaws. Many like these mimics to nutcrackers. Taper Mimic

Enamored with fire as to a moth, the taper mimic sought out several different forms. None of them satisfied its monstrosity's desire until it came across a collection of holiday candles. The way the flame the way it cast light through the cold night and captivated its audience inspired the mimic. It finally realized how to produce its own fire... and how to hypnotize its prey. Jingle Mimic

Stunted creatures, jingle mimics barely moved beyond the polyp stage in size and mentality. This may have been from a deep freeze or perhaps some whiff of strange magic. They are joyous creatures, inspired by the bells of a winter festival. Often they will ring just to hear the sound. Yet, they still hunger and take down prey in bounce, tinkling packs. Slaying Mimic

An ice-born predator, the slaying mimic appears as an abandoned sleigh on the snow, or one parked just outside a northern community. It's adapted to be a fast predator and uses the chilled climate to its advantage. It waits until potential meals are within striking distance and crushes them under rails. Those that survive, and even those that do not, are stuck to the sleigh as it continues on its bloody path. Thus, it's often easy to track this mimic by the trail of frozen gore that it leaves. Occasionally, a remote village will appease and 'tame' one of these monstrosities with a sharing of meals. They find its independent locomotion useful in getting supplies and people from one place to another. However, when thegame gets thin it is often these villagers that end up devoured when the mimic goes hungry. Saintly Mimic

Every winter, homes and shops across the realm put up displays depicting a saintly creature associated with the snowy holiday. Often, this saint represents the best about society, the wish for peace and harmony. While the saintly mimic presents this in spades, this is only a ruse just like its form to sate its hunger. The monstrosity sets up shop, as it were, at the edge of a town. Slowly, but surely it makes its way closer to the center one meal at a time. This is always done under the cover of night where one might mistake the decoration for a lurching, drunk reveler. During the day, the mimic stays still and soaks in the appreciation of what may very well become its dinner that evening. Heart-Shaped Mimic

This mimic species knows there is nothing more intoxicating than love, and there is no easier prey to take down than those under the influence, as it were. To that end, it copies a tempting box of sweets embellished with ribbons with the silhouette of a heart. This heart-shaped mimic has also developed the ability to charm its foes through psionic wavelengths. Sometimes it uses this to lure a meal in close for one a good chomp. When hunting more dangerous prey, it will trick a charmed creature into picking it up and convince it to defend the mimic with its life. Heart-Shaped Mimic Small monstrosity (shapechanger), neutral Armor Class 13 (natural armor) Hit Points 60 (11d6 + 22) Speed 15ft Str 16 Dex 14 Con 15 Int 7 Wis 8 Cha 18 Saving Throws Wis +1, Cha +6 Skills Insight +1, Stealth +6 Damage Immunities acid Condition Immunities charmed, prone Senses darkvision 60 ft....

Ballistic Mimic

Perhaps one of the oddest mimic breeds, the ballistic mimic loves the crash and thunder of combat almost as much as it loves eating. Its digestive system, as elusive and strange as any other shapeshifting aberration, produces a particularly volatile acid which ignites when exposed to oxygen if expelled at a high enough speed. This allows the mimic not only to imitate a siege weapon more effectively, but also cooks its prey, which it prefers. Most often, the ballistic mimic takes on the shape of a cannon with a great roaring mouth ‘cast’ at the end its barrel and baroque wheels. In areas where such items are unheard of, it will pretend to be a self-lighting ballista instead. To deal with multiple enemies, or wily ones, this mimic sports a most disgusting ability, that of generating and spitting a spread of polyps that explode into a tar-like mass on impact. It is not unheard of for pirate crews to cultivate ballistic mimics, feeding them prisoners taken in exchange for firepower. ...

Mimic of Chance

Luck is a fickle, fluid thing, and that's what these tiny mimics love about it most. Taking the shape of dice, cards, and other gambling sets, these unique aberrations can disperse their bodies into a collection of similar objects. It’s not unheard of for a mimic of chance to shuffle itself into another gambling set, carefully consuming the articles it imitates. GIven its size, the mimic of chance prefers easy meals. It uses its alien mind to influence those playing its game, as it were, to take reckless actions such as cheating or betting more than they should until violence or self-harm occurs. Then it gobbles up the results. From time to time, however, a mimic of chance will bind with a gambler, usually a sardonic corrupt soul. Its nature helps the player amass prestige and wealth, while the gambler ensures that the miniature mimic never goes hungry. Maritime Mimic

Listing on the waves, lurking in the fog, scaled into legend, phantom ships draw the curious and greedy like moths to a flame. In the case of a maritime mimic, the result is much the same; the inquisitive are consumed. This mammoth aberration slumbers in coastal shoals while digesting its meals and waiting for its spawning polyps to ripen. Once it grows hungry, or ready to release its young, the maritime mimic takes to the waves. Sometimes it demolishes actual ships that come near, other times it lays in wait while explorers come aboard to feed its myriad children. Most insidiously, it will stuff its hull with sunken loot, mixing in many of the mimic produced amid the plunder, so they can be carried off to fresh hunting grounds by the unsuspecting. The maritime mimic usually has as favored vessel it adopts the visage of, but the most wily of this breed updates its hull through the ages. Rug Mimic

Most prey ignores the ground they walk on as they anxiously eye every chest, doorway, and window around them. The rug mimic evolved to take advantage of this. A long, flat creature most of the time, this aberration delights in creating complex patterns in its false weave. It will even let potential meals walk all over it, sometimes back and forth for days before striking. One odd quirk, however, about this mimic breed is they are easily riled when someone wipes their feet off on them. More often this will cause them to strike, even at inopportune moments. Rug Mimic Large monstrosity (shapechanger), neutral Armor Class 10 (natural armor) Hit Points 93 (11d10 + 33) Speed 15ft Str 18 Dex 8 Con 16 Int 5 Wis 13 Cha 9 Skills Stealth +3 Damage Immunities acid Condition Immunities prone Senses darkvision 60 ft., passive Perception 11 Languages common Cha...

Porcelain Mimic

Let’s face it, old dolls are pretty creepy. They are also something often found in abandoned, loot-filled houses. These mimics realize that and have specialized their appearance to match this niche. However, something unexpected happened. Now and again, these horrors are scooped up by precious children who treat them as a precious toy, babying and talking to them constantly. This constant stimulus added just enough of a spark of intelligence to the aberrations that they learned to speak the common tongue, though often at the level of a human child. While this is a boon to be sure, even more pleasantly, their caretakers often set up tea parties for them! What mimic does like being fed with little effort? Sure. Small pets and neighborhood bullies might go missing, but that’s a small price to pay for companionship. Trapdoor Mimic

The best thing about being an ambush predator is being where the food is, or rather where the food will be. In that vein, this mimic species figured out that there are always adventurers plumbing dungeon depths and that some of the physically weakest, rogues, are always carefully probing floors for traps. So, they have become those floors. Not only do meals come to them, there is a ‘tenderizer’ close at hand as it were in the form of a spiked pit, acid bath, or the like. If hapless creatures don’t realize it is there, however, and walk over them, well all the better.
