Castille's Worries

Crafted from enchanted silk, this scarlet and canary backpack hangs loose and open. Its phoenix-crested latch was broken long ago. Perhaps it was slit open as well, given the long line of white stitching along the right side, but there is no way to know. The straps are fashioned from a sturdy leather and the way it sits on the body allows ample room for a fully stocked quiver beside it. Once riled, Castille’s Worries opens its aperture wide like a hungry maw and spits vials from its bottomless belly to bring down its prey. To be a hero is not to be without doubt Even paragons harbor anxieties. Castille listened not to his, but shut them away Only to have everything he loved pay the price. Regrets weigh heavier than blades and armor Sometimes even in death, they doth linger. The Charred Barrow Dungeon

The Charred Barrow Background: Folklore holds that the overgrown burial mound was constructed to house a hero from afar who fell after fending off a ravenous gnoll horde with a contingent of brave locals. However, after the nameless hero and his companions were laid to rest, a great fire consumed the meager construct. In the aftermath, nothing of note was left within the charred ruins. Recently, a tribe of ogres claimed the barrow as their lair. From there, the brutes terrorized local trade routes and farms. Before heroes could be mustered to route them, however, a great fire broke out in the barrow once again and the anguished screams of the burning giants echoed through the valley for three days straight. That was a week ago and smoke still drifts up from the area. Yesterday, an ogre attacked a travelling caravan again. This time, however, it was lurching, charred corpse with meager scraps of ashen meat hanging to its burned bones. While the sizzling zombie was put down, somethi...

Scalding Mantle

The cloak is a sweeping shroud of wide, black feathers that are slightly warm to the touch. While the cloak doesn’t come with a full clasp, it does sport a wide, circular broach stamped with a phoenix feather. Along the outside there is a ring of scoured away celestial letters that can no longer be read. When attacking, the cloak flies about, spreading wide like a raptor in flight. Fire drips from betwixt its feathers. Misfortune sundered Castille’s renewed hope, Bitterness flowed back in to stiffen his cracked soul. Fortune born on fiery wings was extinguished, Leaving Him only with a field of burning feathers and regret. Oh, how bitterness smothers mercy, How regret snuffs out faith. The Ebon Feathers

A quiver crafted from supple, orange leather and black-feathered arrows. Its strip is studded, yellow leather which each bit of metal formed into a sharp feather. Its buckle also resembles a bird’s talon when properly closed. When roused to battle, the arrows rattle out of the quiver and surround the flying quiver in a cloud of smoldering missiles. Villainy fears His honest blade and cleaning fire, Yet it cannot run so far that black feathers cannot reach it. Ten smoldering pinions was all Castille recovered, His hearth blasted into cinder and ash. Though, wrath is not the same as justice, Alas, they burn with the same heat making it hard to tell. Blaise's Barding

Baroque and intimidating, this barding would have to fit the sturdiest of warhorses. It’s interlinking scales are a rich red, tipped here and there with orange. The cloth draped over the armor bears a charcoal hue, while its reigns are made from stitched-together phoenix feathers. When in motion, fire blazes out of the barding’s eye sockets and fiery hooves mark where the beast’s legs would be. Astride His white and loyal steed, Castille rode with ashes in his wake. Blasphemies nipped at stalwart Blaise’s hooves, The corrupt soon fell beneath them. Still, death always rides a pale horse, And the inferno followed after Him. Seared Scales

This ancient armor is comprised of a bright orange breastplate, a single golden pauldron in the shape of a phoenix’s visage, scarlet vambraces, and and fiery red faulds. The remnants of celestial blessings remain along the seams, mostly obliterated by a charring heat. There is a slot beside the pauldron that would fit a wide, round broach. Clad in the raiments of sorrow, Castille carried the sputtering torch forward. Ruin had struck His colors, His Kingdom, He would see it scoured from the land. But, the seeds of sorrow burrow deep, And with fresh tears shall they bloom anew. The Phoenix's Claw

This silvery longsword never tarnishes, nor does it singe no matter the intensity of any flame that bathes it. The weapon of a forgotten knight, the blade’s hilt resembles a phoenix’s spread wings, though blackened by every fire the sword has ever produced. Its hilt is covered in charred leather and ends in a cracked, ruby pommel. By His right hand, he cut wickedness down And with its bones, He built a warning pyre. No evil would escape His gaze Reborn in vengeance, Castille took flight. Yet, wickedness grows in mortal marrow, There is no flame bright enough to keep it forever at bay. The Phoenix's Beak

Swirling on a stream of ethereal flame, this exotic weapon relentlessly tests the mettle of all those who disturb its rest. Its pick-head is fashioned from charred iron and adorned by black feathers on the backend, which lends the armament a bird’s head appearance. Well-worn leather protects its treant-wood handle and is capped off by a sliver of a phoenix’s talon. By His left hand he pierced evil’s shell Into the rent expanse, Castille poured holy flame With empty eyes, He watched it burn to ash Just as He had His beloved kingdom. Woe, but every man’s heart also contains evil And there is not enough fire to consume it all.
