Font Mimic

Is there anything more inspirational than a fountain? People gravitate toward these displays by instinct. They laugh, play, and eat under its shadow. Some even toss hard-earned copper in for a wish. Most also don't give them a second thought. This is where the mimic comes in. It loves the adoration and is a watering hole and lurking crocodile rolled into one. The years of psychic energy poured into it from bystanders have also imbued it with terrible gifts - gifts it shares with its spawn taking the shape of benches and ornamentation. Danse Macabre

"Most folks don't understand the nature o' this particular geist. He looks like flakes o' pale blue floating around pitted bones with the occasional clump o' like color flesh. Don't know his name neither. Not sure he ever had one, truth be told. Just some poor fool born from air n' flesh, genasi they be called, with the bad luck of being a pretty boy. Ended up being sold to a harem by repulsed parents, raised to please the eye and touch. Till his last owner weren't pleased no more when the dancer could no longer hide his wrinkles. Sadistic bastard, the last one with the leash. He hired a dark wizard to force the genasi to dance at a banquet until he dropped dead from exhaustion, then for a bit after that. Oh, how the crowd laughed... Oh, how the crowd screamed when the newborn undead escaped his yoke and a lifetime of rage tore them apart. Well, a swirl of silverware, flatware, broken bones, wood shards, and anything else caught in Dan

Clicking Mimic

The goal of every mimic is to devour prey, but to do so as lazy as possible. If there is one thing dungeoneers cannot withstand touching besides treasure, its traps, especially traps with big, bright levers. Growing into a wall or another room feature, the clicking mimic presents levers (pseudopods) and secret compartments (mouths) that are hard to resist. It can even attach itself to actual traps in the room to set them off for added flare. Gloamling Gutter

"Ifn' you think a bugbear be a sneaking, dangerous bastard. Well, friend. I've got terrible news for ya. They are even worse when they are dead. The gloaming gutter terrorized a human city for months on end as part of a goblinoid war party workin outta the sewers. She left piles of mutilated peasants n' took out heroes as they slept. When folks finally got wise to where the bugbears and gobbos were comin from, it became a bloodbath in the opposite direction. Not that it did alot of good, as the gutter got away... for a few days anyway. She was eventually caught, but not executed right off bat. 'Stead, they put her in stocks, letting folks pelt her with rotten food n' other things, giving her jus enough grub to keep her starving slow. Their cruelty made sense in the moment, but cruel deaths breed ghosts. Not that city's got a bigger problem, one that's haunted them fer generations." -Fossor Carvilius Graeme Gloamling Gutt

The Whistler

"Hell, Ain't really hard to figure out what the spirit they call the Whistler is all about. Now, it be hard to figure out what the figure is in life. Ya see, he ain't got no head to speak of, nor a pair lips neither to whistle with. His neck ends in a jagged stump that still flex as it should we he dun whistle. The clothes he wears ain't fancy neither. No flash, no frills, no heraldry. I reckon he was a crofter of some sort that whistled as he worked, given the ghost's calloused hands Some poor fella that fell victim to an industrial accident that weren't no accident, you hear? The Guilds 'round these parts used to be cut-throat and them coffers stained with blood. The Whistler, he and the restless dead he gathers to him, well guess who they target. I suppose ya can figure the rest out." -Fossor Carvilius Graeme The Whistler Medium undead, chaotic evil Armor Class 13 Hit Poi

Barrow Mimic

Another mimic attracted to death, the barrow mimic doesn't always hang out with zombies. But when it does, it's at its happiest. Taking the form of a wheelbarrow, the monstrosity first came to this form around grave diggers using such instruments to move mounds of the infected dead. More than a few of those dead didn't stay still. It was hit-and-miss for the mimic until it figured out how to infuse and then use necrotic energy for itself. Now, it always has someone to wheel it around. Manacle Mimic

The favorite of tyrants and jailers anywhere, this particular mimic comes in handy in keeping unruly prisoners (or adventures) manageable. It ints object state, the mimic both binds and observes its victim. If need be, it can even execute and eat them. Its most valuable asset however, is the ability to override the mind of those it holds. This can make a prisoner do as told, or turn them into impromptu guards as needed. Twister Fiend

Stradling the line between demon and elemental, the twister fiend's lower half is a serpentine curl of grit and wind. This odd physiology is solid enough to feel like flesh but intangible enough to be spun to breakneck speed. Its top half is distended and skeletal, resembling a serpent with spindly, three-fingered claws. Behind its head spreads an 'aura' of glass scars upon which one can glimpse the screaming reflections of its most recent victims. Formed directly from the Demon Winds, the twister fiend can only physically exist where the winds spread and are always a manifestation of that plane. When banished back to Hell, it disperses and becomes one with the wind once more. No twister fiend wants this and thus will go to great lengths to survive in a material plane as long as possible, even if it means binding itself to a humanoid master. Gingerbread Mimic

There was once a hag that wanted the most impressive house of all. So, she fed and groomed a mimic to form a cheerful-looking abode to entrance children for the hag to eat. In the end, there once was a mimic that ate a hag. It preferred having owners with a fine festive spirit... but still wasn't above eating naughty children. It offers a fine meal in recompense. Plum Pudding Mimic

One might think a dessert mimic amusing, perhaps even silly. That is until they encounter this horror. Constantly ravenous for fresh humanoid fat and treasure, the monstrosity disguises itself as a tasty treat of mammoth proportions. Often its hunting grounds are in city slums or destitute villages where hungry overcomes common sense. It may not get rich quick in such places, but it certainly gets fed. Little Ma'ack Orner found it in the corner, A great big festive pie; He put in his thumb, And was pulled into the chum, And screamed, "What a dead boy am I!" Greatcoat Mimic

A relative of the Scarf Mimic, the Greatcoat Mimic seeks out creatures in need of its protection. No one is sure why this is, though the prevailing theory is that the first coat mimic was cursed by a winter fey or festive saint it attacked. Now it must protect others from the harsh climate and other foes. If so, it seems this curse passed on to its spawn. It uses its pseudopods not only to attack enemies but also to keep its ward upright and moving as needed. Scarf Mimic

While not as malicious as most of its cousins, the scarf mimic is no less vicious when viciousness is called for. This particular breed seeks out those shivering in cold soon after they are gestated. They imprint on these creatures much like a puppy. From there on out, it takes a shape of a warm scarf several feet in length. It also becomes the creature's protector much like a vigilant hound, to continue the analogy. Iced Mimic

An odd and psychotic breed of monstrosity, the ice mimic enters a hibernation state for the warmest season of the year. As soon as the weather turns and snow falls, it awakens and begins its terrifying hunt. Taking the form of snow sculptures, the mimic stalks prey switching from normal to horrid form in the blink of an eye. Its bulk rapidly glows as it gluts on frightened creatures, building up fat before falling into slumber once more. Braided Mimic

It's hard to tell if this mimic is one creature or a collection of monstrosities based on its behavior. Its preferred disguise is one of a garland ranging from festive oak vines, to daisy chains, to beaded ropes. In each instance, this is a weave of separate strands coming together as a whole. Why? Because the mimic can unspool into a swarm - separate but whole. In either form, it squirms, slithers, and squeezes the life from its prey.
