Swarm of Cobble Mimics

Your investigation keeps looping back to a certain street deep within the city slums. So many people have gone missing on this little patch of cobblestone. Yet, no evidence of foul play has ever been left behind, not even a spec of blood. No magic lingers in the area and it's easy to get lost just thinking on the problem there. Wait? Did that cobblestone just blink? Why are your boots sticking to the road? So many tiny, hungry, mouths. The first cobble mimic wasn't a terrible threat. All it could really eat were mice and other small vermin. Then its spawn wasn't much trouble either. Sure there were many hungry mouths to feed, but they still couldn't do much damage. That and a bitten toe could be written off as a stubbed one. However, once they reached colony size, then the blood started to really fly. The swarm slows people down as they move, can choose if they stick them in place or not, and quickly reduces a creature to slurry with dozens of slapping tendrils. For f

Tub Mimic

The baron disappeared from a locked room. No signs of struggle. No sign of them coming or going. It appears he was preparing to take a bath. Is that blood on the tile? Yes, it is. A clue. You study it carefully. Splish Splash. Now you're taking a bath. A particular vicious mimic, the tub mimic carries an inflated sense of self. It is the most inviting trap there possibly can be because who doesn't want a long, hot soak. With this ego comes a dulled mind and a bully's rage that often manifests as a flurry of blows. That's if drowning prey doesn't work first. Oddly, it can also drain more than water, sucking away the very strength that would save many a meal. Rumors have each tub mimic has a collection of rubber ducks. Brocade Mimic

The masked bard in gaudy attire was strumming away when the bar fight started. It kept playing even as chairs broke and mugs flew. Not one strum was missed even when blood was spilled. Then someone grew sick of the racket and stuck a hand ax into the bard's neck...with a wooden thunk. The fancy vest exploded with teeth, tentacles, and eyes. Then there was the color spray... The first brocade mimic lurked in the rafters of a bard college. Instead of eating a future player, it learned alongside them and caught a passion for the arts. Of course, it could have become an instrument but that wasn't quite grand enough. The mimic became a set of fancy clothes and was worn out the front doors. Sometimes it and its spawn become a bard's best friend. sometimes it pilots a dead one around for a bit, and other times it takes over a mannequin to strike out on its own. No matter how, the show must always go on. Brocade Mimic Medium Monstrosity (shapechanger), neutral

Sconce Mimic

Your party's last torch is sputtering out and the idea of delving deeper in the dark fills you with dread. Yes, yes I know you have dark vision over there Himli. Thankfully, not only does this tunnel have the occasional sconce as the rest of the dungeon has but the one just a few feet away still has an unlit torch resting in it. As you near this well-timed relief, the previous torch winks out. Something slimy wraps around your arm and hot saliva drips on your face. Himli you see the sconce sprout tentacles and a maw.. just before a similar set wraps around the dwarf's helmet from above. One of many mimics enamored by flame, heat and light, the sconce mimic is the runt of this particular genius. However, they are often the most decorative and numerous. A clutch of these monstrosities can easily infest most of a dungeon complex. Not only can they produce flame - even without a catalyst present - these mimics can quench them as well. Spitting flames or attacking the pitch darkne
