Escutcheon Mimic

Escutcheon mimics are both lazy and vain creatures. They prefer to be carried places and put on display in all their glory. In that vein, they take the form of magical shields with garish decorations suited to their current host’s heraldry or personality. That is if they don’t devour a greedy soul that picks them off a dungeon wall or out of a dragon’s horde. In the right hand, the escutcheon mimics serve as a magical shield and stalwart companion… as long as it is fed on a regular basis. Thus they often pair with adventurers. Likewise, if the hero carrying them dies, that’s an easy enough meal to glut on until a new pair of legs arrive. Cactus Fiend

Bloated by stolen fluids, the gaunt fiend looks like its sickly-green skin might rip at any moment. The multitude of boney spines sticking out of the seams betwixt its muscles doesn’t help either. Yet, somehow the abyssal creature keeps itself together. The rags it wears, however, do not last long. Yet, the fiend always finds fresh cloth from its victims to skewer. Its face, such as it is, is flat with a sunken, rotten hole where eyes and a mouth should be; viscous mucous dribbles from all three. The fiend can also bloom membranous sails from its back, catching the Demon Winds and flying as swift and directed as a winged beast. Liberating Mimic

The truth, they say, will set you free. This particular breed of mimic is attracted to truth or at least the test of those that seek it. As such, they take the shape of the church or town bells, and oh what a beautiful, deep sound they make… at least when they are not chewing. Sometimes, liberating mimics lurk in abandoned belfries and steeples. More often, however, these monstrosities become the icon of mad cults who sacrifice livestock and heresy to their ‘truth givers’. This aura of fanaticism invests the liberating mimic with the ability to keep the frothing masses whipped up into a frenzy. Though, some revolutionaries have adopted these particular mimics as well, using them to support their fight against tyrants and madmen. Gaslight Mimic

Much like a curious cat becoming fascinated with sunbeams reflected on the wall, the gaslight mimic is so enamored with light that it sought a form that could produce it. While the basic shape was easy enough to assume, the actual illumination proved difficult. The mimic worked the angles of its false glass, studied the way fires worked and then had the good luck to devour an illusionist. Not long after, it found a way to produce a false light, much to its delight. Over time, the gaslight mimic and its ilk figured out how to produce slightly more complex illusions or even blind its prey when necessary.
