Hearth Mimic

Not all mimics like their food raw with the hearth mimic being the prime example. Originally charmed by a archmage, the hearth mimic served as his cooking fire, garbage disposal, and guard dog for years. When heroes slew the magus and took the tower over, the mimic saw no reason to alter the arrangement. It wasn't long before its decedents made their way into other venues. Sometimes they are menaces lurking within abandoned houses, other times helpful servants as long as they are kept placated. Every single one is exceedingly hesitant to attack cats and dogs, having developed an affection for the critters most frequently curled before their flames. Gondola Mimic

An aquatic monstrosity, the gondola mimic patterns itself off of the simple crocodile to some extent. It started off floating on the surface of a canal awaiting meals to come near, but noted that prey was often wary of an abandoned boat. They were even more so of a gondola that glides on its own. Over time, it developed the ability to animate a corpse to serve as its 'pilot' and complete the illusion. The zombified gondolier serves as a guard and larder as well. Eventually the mimic also realized that it could use its necromantic prowess to rob other creatures of their buoyancy. Curious Mimic

While this strain of mimic craves flesh and blood as much as any other, it also covets all that sparkles. Not only does it gather treasures to fill itself, but it also doesn't lock them away by taking the form of a chest. Instead, it becomes an elegant cabinet full of flawless glass, crafted from exquisite wood. The items it collects are arranged in an artistic display, not only to show off but to attract fresh prey. The mimic addles the minds of those that spy its treasures. Those that succumb wander closer to add to the collection, and sometimes get eaten. Over time, the species realized that many magic items are dangerous to hang on to, and thus developed the ability to dampen them to some extent. It's not unknown for a mad wizard to breed curious mimics to hold and guard his collection at the same time. Though, more than a few have been devoured by their pets. Signpost Mimic

While a creature of deceit and a scavenger, the signpost mimic is still a dangerous foe when pressed. Its preferred predatory method is to direct passersbys toward dangerous encounters nearby: monsters, traps, environmental hazards, bandits. Once the travelers are maimed or slain, the signpost mimic slinks in and dines on the choicest bits that remain. When prey proves too difficult and requires direct action, it scrambles their brains before setting upon them. However, its favorite meals are weary, solidary wanderers that fall asleep under its shadow... Helmet Mimic

A relative of the head cage mimic, this particular strain of monstrosities enjoys the buttery flavor of brain matter, the fine crunch of cranium, and the grave that only bloody mucus can provide. To which, they take the guise of magical helmets and make the beast of burdens they move from one dungeon to another 'headstrong'. Very little will slow a helmet mimic down, and the same can be used for its unwitting mount. In the end, though, the bearer of this helmet will end up its meal.
