Broken Bough

In its true form, Broken Bough is a mockery of a humanoid comprised of branch, brier, earth, fungus, and thorns. Trapped within the gorse are hunks of meat and bones harvested from its victims. It is from these rotting nodules that the plant horror generates an animal disguise so it might continue its hunt. At the heart of the terror resides a sliver of stone chiseled with the druidic symbol for hate.

All Flesh Must Die. Broken Bough was once a dryad sapling in a druid grove. It was showered with attention by the nature priests who worshiped there. It hummed along to their ritual songs. It swayed along to their dancing forms. It listened to their words and gained a crackle of sentience. Then men and dogs came to claim the grove for their own. Broken Bough was watered with its beloved druids’ blood, stunned by their final screams and sobs, shuddered as ancient stones were toppled and shattered. Before the usurpers left, they set the grove aflame, so they might build souless buidlings upon it later.

Despite being uprooted and driven by grief and rage, Broken Bough crawled across the ground to the scattered megalith shards. Along the way, it gathered chunks of its beloved druids and used one of their bones to scratch its creed of 'Hate' into a hunk of enchanted stone. Once it shoved the shard into its core, Broken Bough constructed arms and legs for the first time. It took a full month for the plant to figure out how to cover itself with magical meat, and the rest of the season to imiate the humanoids it loathed and their loyal beasts. Then, its hunt began. It stole the faces and memories of the weaker of the despoilers and used both to worm its way closer to the more difficult targets.

Along the way, Broken Bough discovered the civilized world was as strange and wicked as the men it stalked. There were no innocents. Thus, none would be spared. Perhaps the memories it stole corrupted the once dyrad, or perhaps it'd become fond of killing. Either way it now plays games of cat and mouse, infiltration and slaughter. More than a few forest-side villages lay empty due to its claws and the paranoid Broken Bough blooms.

Cuirassier Mimic

Hand-crafted by an aberrant soul, the first mimic of this breed was given to the creature's loyal bodyguard to provide both protection... and a second bodyguard as it were. The monstrosity performed exceptionally well, especially when heroes slew the fellow wearing it and the mimic kept the bottom fighting. Thus the cuirassier mimic was passed to the next right-hand-mook, and so on as its bearers passed. This lead to a legend of an immortal servant when in truth, it was just the armor all along. Eventually, its creator was killed, the mimic 'looted', and its spore spread across the realm. Entry Mimic

This particular strain of mimics was carefully cultivated into being by a drow matron sick of uninvited guests - both of the adventurer and political rival variety. Resistant to pesky bypassing magic and capable of alerting a building's occupants (and other mimics) of interlopers, entry mimics became all the rage... well, until they started eating honored guests and the occasional house pet. The matron quickly lost favor and stepped through one door never to return... as it were. Soot Foot

Prior to Death claiming the Kingdom, the zombie dubbed Soot Foot was just another of the faceless masses. While he was a chimney sweep of notable skill, no one noted the ash-smeared lad. Surely, he could have made some money it a sideshow with his double-jointed talents but he preferred the quiet life. He perished in the middle of a job, his already pliant joints tearing into compound fractures as he scrambled to find the flesh of the living. The toxins soaked into his rotting skin give him a unique virality that leaves fiery undead in his weak and he never leaves the cinder of his chimney lairs far behind. -Records of the Charnel House Soot Foot Medium undead (zombie), chaotic evil Armor Class 8 Hit Points 45 (6d8 + 18) Speed 20ft Climb 20ft Str 16 Dex 6 Con 16 Int 3 Wis 8 Cha 5 Skills Stealth +2 Damage Resistances fire Condition Immunities exhaustion, poisoned
