Gallows Walker

Very few methods of dying are as visually horrifying as a hanging, yet at the same time alluring to mortals because of its ties to justice. Often commons crowd around an execution, jeering the accuse and being wears from roaming hawkers. Expert necromancers can take this psychic frenzy and imbue the execution berth with necrotic energy. It tears free from its moorings and seeks a permanent audience. In appearance, the gallows walker resembles a wooden spider with an asymmetrical distribution of legs. However, it still moves with alien alacrity despite its misshapen hulk. Its railing and nooses jut from the front rather like the lantern of an angler fish.

Spectral Sinkhole. When a gallows walker chokes the life out of the victim it also steals their soul. The construct’s grim decorations, hanging corpses, allow it to press the trapped specters into service. A swarm of wailing spirits with broken necks swirl around the walker as it stalks across fallow fields sewing even greater terror. The specters bound to the gallows walker are only freed when their hanging bodies are destroyed.

The gallows walker is immune to any spell or effect that would alter its form.

Nooses.

The Gallow Walker can have up to six nooses at a time. Each noose can be attacked (AC 20; 10 hit points; immunity to poison and psychic damage, vulnerability to fire damage). Destroying a noose deals no damage to the Gallow Walker, which can extrude a replacement noose on its next turn. A noose can also be broken if a creature takes an action and succeeds on a DC 17 Strength check against it.

The Condemned

As long as a corpse of a creature strangled by the Gallow Walker hangs from one of its nooses the creature's specter is bound to the Gallow Walker. Bound specters which are slain regain all hit points at the next sunset as long as the Gallow Walker is still alive and the specter's corpse still hangs from a noose. If the specter's corpse is removed from the noose or that noose is destroyed the specter is slain. Each bound wraith lowers the number of nooses the Gallow Walker has available by one.

Actions

Multiattack

he Gallow Walker makes 3 Noose attacks if Nooses are available, a Reel action, and 1 Smash attack as one action.

Noose

Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 20ft, one target. Hit: The target is grappled (escape DC 14). Until the grapple ends, the target is restrained and has disadvantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws, and the gallows walker can't use the same noose on another target. The target begins suffocating as it is choked by the noose. See suffocation rules. A creature who dies due to this suffocation returns as a specter bound to the gallows walker at the next sunset.

Reel

The gallows walker pulls a creature grappled by it up to 10 feet straight toward it.

Slam

Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5ft, one target.Hit:14 (2d8+5) bludgeoning damage.

Cuirassier Mimic

Hand-crafted by an aberrant soul, the first mimic of this breed was given to the creature's loyal bodyguard to provide both protection... and a second bodyguard as it were. The monstrosity performed exceptionally well, especially when heroes slew the fellow wearing it and the mimic kept the bottom fighting. Thus the cuirassier mimic was passed to the next right-hand-mook, and so on as its bearers passed. This lead to a legend of an immortal servant when in truth, it was just the armor all along. Eventually, its creator was killed, the mimic 'looted', and its spore spread across the realm. Entry Mimic

This particular strain of mimics was carefully cultivated into being by a drow matron sick of uninvited guests - both of the adventurer and political rival variety. Resistant to pesky bypassing magic and capable of alerting a building's occupants (and other mimics) of interlopers, entry mimics became all the rage... well, until they started eating honored guests and the occasional house pet. The matron quickly lost favor and stepped through one door never to return... as it were. Soot Foot

Prior to Death claiming the Kingdom, the zombie dubbed Soot Foot was just another of the faceless masses. While he was a chimney sweep of notable skill, no one noted the ash-smeared lad. Surely, he could have made some money it a sideshow with his double-jointed talents but he preferred the quiet life. He perished in the middle of a job, his already pliant joints tearing into compound fractures as he scrambled to find the flesh of the living. The toxins soaked into his rotting skin give him a unique virality that leaves fiery undead in his weak and he never leaves the cinder of his chimney lairs far behind. -Records of the Charnel House Soot Foot Medium undead (zombie), chaotic evil Armor Class 8 Hit Points 45 (6d8 + 18) Speed 20ft Climb 20ft Str 16 Dex 6 Con 16 Int 3 Wis 8 Cha 5 Skills Stealth +2 Damage Resistances fire Condition Immunities exhaustion, poisoned
